MEDIA, Pa. — Penn State Brandywine's all-time leading scorer Nikki Velez was named to the Penn State University Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball All-Decade Team.
Velez starred for Brandywine from 2016-20, scoring 1,800 points, one of the highest totals in PSUAC history, during her 111-game career.
A four-time USCAA All-American, Velez earned four First Team All-PSUAC selections. As a senior, she was named national player of the year by the USCAA, while also claiming conference player of the year honors after averaging a career-high and PSUAC-leading 19.4 points per game.
A career 39% shooter from beyond the three-point arc, Velez set Brandywine records for career three-pointers (325) and single-season threes (103 in 2019-20). In addition to leading the conference in three-point shooting during her final year at Brandywine, she was also the top free throw shooter, making more than 83% of her shots from the line.
Only the second player in Brandywine history to record a 40-point game when she poured in 41 points in a victory over Penn State Schuylkill on Feb. 8, 2020, Velez finished her career with 404 rebounds, 296 steals and 239 assists.
She was also a standout on the softball field as the Lions' starting shortstop for four seasons. Velez produced 107 hits, seventh-most in team history, and batted .363 during her 108-game career.
Velez was a member of five PSUAC championship-winning teams at Brandywine, claiming three softball titles and two women's basketball championships.
Velez graduated from Brandywine in 2020 with a degree in psychology and will begin her first season as a member of the women's basketball coaching staff in 2021-22.
