Students can choose the college experience that best fits their needs by living on campus in our residence hall or commuting from home while remaining fully engaged in campus life.

You are considered a first-year applicant if you are:
- A current high school student in their senior year who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- A student who has earned a high school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) credential, or High School Equivalency (HSE) and has no post-secondary coursework
- A student who has earned a high school diploma, GED or HSE and attempted 17 or fewer credits (semester hours) of college coursework at a regionally accredited college or university before attending Penn State
- A student who earned college credits through dual enrollment, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or other programs while in high school
- A student who may have attended Penn State on a nondegree basis
Students who have attempted 18 or more college credits after graduating from high school should apply as transfer students.
