Faculty Instructions

Commencement is one of the most meaningful traditions at Penn State Brandywine, and faculty participation is essential to the experience. Your presence honors our graduates and strengthens the sense of pride, belonging, and connection that defines this day. Below you’ll find key details on the schedule, expectations, and ways to engage.

SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2026

8:30–9:30 a.m. | Graduate Reception (Student Union Building)

  • Open to faculty, staff, and students
  • This reception marks an opportunity to congratulate graduates, take photos (including with the mascot), and meet families and guests
  • Faculty presence enhances the student experience—your engagement matters
  • At approximately 9:15 a.m., Faculty marshals join graduating students in Parsons Hall for final instructions from the Registrar

9:30 a.m. | Procession (Student Union → Commons/Athletic Center)

  • Led by the campus marshal
  • Faculty marshals lead assigned student groups
  • Faculty not serving as marshals follow and conclude the procession

10:00 a.m. | Ceremony (Commons/Athletic Center)

  • Processional order: campus marshal → students with faculty marshals → platform party
  • Event staff will direct faculty to the designated seating area (left side, facing the stage)

12:00 p.m. | Conclusion & Recessional

  • Recessional order: platform party → faculty → students
  • Faculty will form two lines at the back of the gym to create an applause corridor for graduates
  • Alumni Society reception follows; faculty are welcome to attend and continue celebrating with students and families

Please Note: The appropriate regalia is required for the ceremony, including robe, hood, and mortarboard or tam. Please contact Gail Wray or Heather Shank if you need to secure academic regalia for the ceremony.
