Senior takes on leadership role, coordinates community event

For many college students, the beginning of the semester means crunch time. Late night study sessions, demanding exams and weighty class projects are all high priorities. This was no different for corporate communications major Ashley Piroeff, except for one big detail. This past semester the Penn State Brandywine senior served as the intern event coordinator for Middletown Township, tasked with organizing and executing a large-scale community event.

Brandywine's inaugural softball season a tremendous success

Although it was the first time in campus history that Penn State Brandywine fielded a softball team, the Lady Lions certainly didn't waste any time making a big impact on the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).  

Three years ago Athletic Director Jim Gastner put a plan in motion to build a softball program at the campus from scratch. He knew that adding the spring sport would be a perfect fit for Brandywine, allowing greater opportunities for female student-athletes.

Undergraduate researcher recognized with national award

The Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR), a national organization that supports and promotes high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship, has presented Penn State Brandywine sophomore Jonathan Fridman with the 2014 GeoCUR Award for Excellence in Student Research. Fridman is one of only 10 undergraduate students from across the United States to receive the impressive honor.

Staff recognized for excellence during awards ceremony

Penn State Brandywine presented five prestigious awards to campus staff members, honoring employees for their excellence in service, teamwork, spirit and innovation at its annual Staff Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 30.

The Chancellor's Award, presented to a staff member who has displayed exceptional, long-term service and superior performance, was bestowed upon Athletic Director Jim Gastner.

Director of academic affairs appointed at Penn State Brandywine

Brandywine Professor and Program Coordinator of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) Cynthia Lightfoot has been named director of academic affairs (DAA) at Penn State Brandywine, effective July 1, 2014.  She will take over for current Interim Director of Academic Affairs and Professor of Chemistry John Tierney, who has served as interim DAA for the past five months. 

Brandywine freshman wins University-wide research award

 It may only be Haleigh Swansen's second semester on campus, but the first-year Schreyer Honors Scholar isn't wasting any time making a positive impact at Penn State Brandywine.  The communications major was recently honored by Penn State with the first annual Recording of Academic Research (ROAR) Award for her research video submission.

Brandywine professor, author invited to Shirley Chisholm dedication

Penn State Brandywine Associate Professor of History and Women's Studies Julie Gallagher was recently invited to the U.S. Postal Service's ceremony honoring famous Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. Held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall in Brooklyn, N.Y., the U.S. Postal Service issued the 37th Black Heritage Forever Stamp, featuring an image of Chisholm. 

Brandywine hosts annual undergraduate research showcase EURECA

 Each year, Penn State Brandywine honors students across numerous academic disciplines during its annual Exhibition of Undergraduate Research Enterprise and Creative Accomplishment (EURECA). This event serves as an occasion for Brandywine undergraduates to present their research to the campus community and outside guests after several months of hard work and dedication.
