Penn State Brandywine celebrated the achievements of its campus community members on Friday, April 11, presenting four esteemed awards to faculty and staff at its annual Faculty Awards Program.
Professor of Chemistry Michael De Rosa was honored with the Faculty Research Program Award, which recognizes the scholarly or creative excellence of a professor at the campus in any area of the social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, business, communication, arts or humanities.
Before a crowd of family, friends and campus community members, Penn State Brandywine honored students and faculty for their accomplishments and merit in academia at its annual Academic Recognition Ceremony on Monday, April 14.
It may have happened well over a decade ago, but Djuradj Stakic recalls the life-altering decision he made as if it were yesterday. Fearful of the tyrannical dictatorship in his home country of Serbia and in search of a better life for his family, Stakic, his wife and two children fled their homeland for the United States, uncertain how their futures would unfold.
"It was just chaos," Stakic said about Serbia's social disorder. "So, honestly, I escaped. I wasn't brave ⦠I was afraid."

Penn State Brandywine has named Joseph Williamson as the campus' second police officer. Williamson was sworn in on Friday, March 21 and is now serving the Brandywine campus community.
Before joining Penn State Brandywine, he spent his entire 25-year police career with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), where he retired as detective III in January 2014.
