Deadline approaching for high school journalism award submissions

High school students, wouldn’t it be great to share on your resume that you are a Penn State journalism contest winner?

Penn State Brandywine and the Delaware County Press Club are offering a free journalism contest to high school students. Winners will be announced at the 2015 Journalism Symposium at 6:30 p.m. March 25 in the Tomezsko Building at Penn State Brandywine.

High school students are encouraged to mail or email submissions by March 2 for the chance to win $99 (or $50 for honorable mention). Four categories are offered: broadcast, literary magazine, newspaper and photography. Category details can be found at www.bw.psu.edu/PrideinPrint, and a winner and honorable mention from each category will be announced at the 2015 Journalism Symposium. Attendees will also have the chance to meet judges and hear critiques about submitted work.

Judges and symposium speakers will consist of Penn State Brandywine faculty and members of the Delaware County Press Club. Judges will be considering all entries based on value, importance or worth of the story, quality of reporting, quotes, writing and editing.

All entries must be published during the 2014-15 academic school year (unless specified in the category information on the Journalism Symposium website). The school’s faculty adviser must submit work and an entry form application must be included and completed in its entirety. Submissions should be an original print, copy of original or scanned PDF of the original.

Entries can be sent to Penn State Brandywine Pride in Print: High School Journalism Contest, 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Media, PA 19063 or emailed to [email protected]. We understand staffs may publish strictly online. If this is the case, print your submission and mail or email with the link to your online story or photograph.

All additional contest details can be found on the Journalism Symposium website along with the entry form necessary for submission. For any questions, contact Jenna Eckel, public relations specialist, at 610-892-1255 or [email protected].
