Brandywine celebrates Diwali, the Festival of Lights

As part of Penn State Brandywine’s celebration of Diwali — the Festival of Lights — students Raneem Abdelradi and Munia Akter added flower petals to the rangoli, a colorful Indian art form. The Oct. 21 event was sponsored by the campus’ Multicultural Club and Multilingual and International Student Programs.

Brandywine athletes raise funds and awareness to reduce domestic violence

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As part of Spirit Week organized by the Penn State University Athletic Conference’s student-athlete advisory council, Brandywine Athletics chose to raise awareness of domestic abuse. Brandywine softball players Kaylee Mushinski, April Lewandowski and Karly Rees collected donations at campus soccer and volleyball games to benefit the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County.

Brandywine students speak out for diversity and inclusion

Penn State Brandywine students held a rally on Oct. 11 to affirm their commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive campus community. The rally was in response to recent speech on campus by persons not affiliated with Penn State that was hateful and not in keeping with Brandywine’s values. Student Government President Jessica Gore (front left) led the march across campus with support from the Office of Residence Life and the Center for Social Impact.

Local Rotarians donate professional attire for Brandywine students

On Oct. 5, members of the Rotary Club of Media dropped off 295 items for Penn State Brandywine’s campus clothing drive. The suits, ties, shirts, blouses, sweaters, skirts, pants, shoes and coats will be shared with students who may need professional attire for Brandywine’s upcoming career fair and other professional opportunities.

Brandywine professor uses virtual exchange to give students global experience

Penn State Brandywine Professor of Education Lynn Hartle has used technology to give her students an international experience without leaving their home campus. During the spring semester, Hartle collaborated with Luciana Cabrini Simões Calvo, professor of language teacher education at the State University of Maringá in Brazil, to provide virtual experiences for their students.
