Penn State alumnus Bruce Ryan, chief photojournalist at NBC10/Telemundo62 – Philadelphia, has been appointed to the Penn State Brandywine Advisory Board. Advisory board members serve as ambassadors for the campus and provide guidance in many areas, including student life, civic engagement, academic programs and career pathways and preparation.

Ninety graduates received their bachelor’s degree at Penn State Brandywine’s spring 2023 commencement ceremony on May 6 in the campus gymnasium. Brandywine Chancellor Marilyn J. Wells commended the graduates for their persistence that led to the milestone occasion.
Susan Fredricks, associate professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State Brandywine, has received the International Award for Excellence from Information, Medium & Society – The Publishing Studies Research Network. The honor recognizes Fredricks’ research titled “Thirty Years Reflection and Implication of the Allowability of Controversial Anti-government, Revolutionary Book Publishing by Great Britain.”
Like many of her classmates, Dana Hallahan was drawn to Penn State Brandywine by the University’s reputation, the small campus feel and the location close to her home. Although she originally planned to complete her degree at University Park through the 2+2 program, Hallahan found Brandywine to be the “right fit” for her, and the campus’ academic and leadership opportunities motivated her to stay for four years.
In an era of increasingly frequent job changes — when even 10-15 years at the same employer stands out for its longevity — Distinguished Professor of Political Science Stephen Cimbala’s 50 years at Penn State Brandywine reflect a remarkable achievement. Cimbala — a Penn State alumnus — joined Penn State Brandywine in 1973 as the campus’ first chief academic officer.
A new research program for students will be launched this coming fall: The Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses Undergraduate Student Research Fund aims to support student-led projects in different fields. Participants will acquire hands-on experience in research, scholarship, and artistic efforts. They will be responsible for creating their own research problems, study proposals, methodologies, and presenting their findings.
