Men’s Basketball Coach Micah Shrewsberry
Penn State alumni, friends, faculty, and staff connected online for the first Penn State Brandywine Virtual Ball Thursday, June 10, 2021. The evening event kicked off with an online reception for VIP ticketholders featuring Men’s Basketball Coach Micah Shrewsberry, offering an insider’s perspective on the preparations for his inaugural year leading the Nittany Lions on the court. He shared his vision for the team, his views on leadership, and how he was adjusting to Happy Valley.
Immediately following the VIP event, hosts Michelle Haskins,‘00 and Student Government Association President Nicole Jimenez welcomed guests and introduced a performance of Penn State’s Alma Mater by the Brandywine Music Association. Chancellor Marilyn Wells shared the importance of the Student Retention Fund and highlighted some initiatives making a difference in student retention, as well as Brandywine students and groups making an impact. A student video shared stories from our recent graduates sharing how Penn State supported them during challenging times.
A lively Fund-A-Need surpassed its goal of raising $7,500, which is the average unmet need of a Penn State Brandywine student. Generous attendees pledged a total of $13,400 to support the Student Retention Fund, which provides funding to increase the affordability to a Penn State education for Brandywine students through programmatic support, as well as need-based, merit-based, and program-specific scholarships. The fund also provides transformative educational experiences that contribute to retention, such as undergraduate research, mentoring, and career and leadership development opportunities.
Thanks to the generosity of attendees, donors, and silent auction bidders, the Brandywine Virtual Ball raised $30,842 for the Student Retention Fund at Penn State Brandywine. We owe gratitude to our sponsors who helped make the event possible; The David and Marjorie Rosenberg Foundation, Communications Test Design, Inc., and Pennoni.
Thank you to everyone who made the Penn State Brandywine Virtual Ball a success!
