Summer Youth Programming Schedule

Join us virtually this summer as we kick off our inaugural youth programming for the Brandywine LaunchBox. 

These programs are designed for high school students ages 15 and older.

Personal Branding and Entrepreneurship (ENTR 5010)

Dates: June 28, 29, 30 
Time: 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Cost: $150

In this first-ever, dynamic, summer mini-program, you will learn about “personal branding”, how to discover your very own personal brand, and apply your personal brand to your big idea for a business.   You will also gain exposure to the Lean Start-Up methodology to rapidly discover if your business idea is viable.  This mini program also will feature successful entrepreneurs, representing an array of businesses, who will share their entrepreneurial stories to inspire you and your ideas.  

This class is an overview of the fundamentals and principles of being an entrepreneur. This course helps you understand the concept of personal branding and how these principles can apply to starting a business. During this virtual experience, you will learn about the Lean Start-Up Method. Local entrepreneurs will serve as virtual guest speakers to share their entrepreneurial stories with the program participants.

Personal Finance Workshop (FIN 6035)

Dates: July 26–30
Times: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. synchronous, 1 p.m.–3 p.m. asynchronous
Cost: $200

This camp will prepare today’s teenagers for the financial twists and turns of growing up in the 21st century.  This program will focus on the mathematics that adults are faced with on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Campers will be introduced to career planning, personal budgeting, basic banking, how credit works, school loans, auto payments & auto insurance, and "adulting." Throughout the week, campers will have the opportunity to apply these skills through a variety of different platforms, including computer-based projects, “escape rooms,” use of Microsoft Excel, and “real world” application projects. Painting, Drawing and More (YTHPR 6105)

Dates: July 12–16
Times: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. synchronous, 1 p.m.–3 p.m. asynchronous
Cost: $200

In this class, you will have the opportunity to explore a variety of media, including pen and ink, acrylic paints, and pastels. Put your creative problem-solving skills and inventive use of tools and materials to work! Our thought-provoking projects can help you find inspiration for your artwork. Gain important insights for a portfolio presentation and interview process. This is a great course for any students interested in pursuing careers in the arts. Any supplemental materials will be shipped to the address on file. Please register by 6/28 to ensure timely delivery.

This camp focuses on:

  • Fostering and managing artistic skills needed to create a portfolio
  • Experimenting with a variety of art materials and techniques
  • Learning more about art as a college major or profession
  • Participating in activities like self-portraits, landscapes, still-life, etc.

Podcasting 101 (YTHPR 5252)

Dates: July 27, 28, 29
Time: 2–4 p.m.
Cost: $150

This is your chance to join the exciting world of podcasting! This hands-on approach will lead you through the creative process from the beginning idea to finished product. You will learn the elements of great podcasts, what makes them effective and how to leverage expert techniques to tell the story you have been waiting to tell. This class will cover the basics of writing and scripting, recording technology and best practices as well as mastering your final product, uploading and tracking your audience engagement. Basic Electronics & Introduction to Arduino Microcontroller (YTHPR 6108)

Dates: July 19, 20, 21, 22
Time: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Cost: $300

Electronics and Software is everywhere. It’s In our homes, work and of course our cell phones. Would you like to learn the basics of Electronics and programming using a small computer called and Arduino microcontroller? If yes, this is the course for you. We will complete the course by building a Motion Detection System. 

Here are the details:

1.    Electrical fundamentals, voltage, current, and resistance
2.    Basic circuits using batteries and resistors and LED's
3.    How to use a digital meter to measure voltage, resistance and current
4.    How to control and electric circuits
5.    Safe practices when working with electronics
6.    Introduction to the Arduino with a small computer
7.    Play with the Arduino virtually without hardware first
8.    Simple programming with the Arduino controlling LED’s and sensing the world
9.    Simple programming with Arduino to control motors
10.  Building a Simple Motion Detection system
