MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine kicked off the 2016-17 athletic year on Monday night with its annual Brandywine Games. In addition to a night of fun, food and games, those attending were asked to donate school supplies.

Over 500 items were collected by the 150 student-athletes, coaches and Brandywine staff and faculty in attendance. Items ranged from folders, notebooks and pens to backpacks and Lysol wipes. The Brandywine volleyball team led all teams in number of items donated.

All of the school supplies collected on Monday night will be donated to schools in Chester through the Second Time Around parents program.

Brandywine fall sports officially began practice on Tuesday and will play regular season games for the first time in 2016 on Thursday, Sept. 1.
