MEDIA, Pa. — Eight Penn State Brandywine students attended the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Delaware Section awards ceremony on April 15. The award ceremony honored Thomas H. Epps, III, a chemical engineer from the University of Delaware.

Anna Sigmond, assistant professor of chemistry, is the awards chair for the Delaware Section of the ACS. She said that bringing the eight students along was a great way for them to network with professionals in the chemistry industry.

“I extended an open invitation to all of my organic chemistry students, seeing this as a valuable opportunity to connect with local professionals in the chemistry community, hear an engaging scientific talk on green chemical engineering by a leader in the field and develop their networking and interpersonal skills,” she said. “I have extended a similar invitation to my students to our upcoming Carothers Award event on May 9, which will feature a talk by the leader of the research team at Bristol-Meyers-Squibb who developed the blockbuster drug Eliquis.”

As part of the event, the students were able to network with peers from other universities, as well as with academic and industry professionals.

The Delaware Section of the ACS is a professional organization representing nearly 1,000 chemists and chemical engineers who are mostly employed by DuPont, Chemours, Agilent, AstraZeneca, Siemens, Ashland, FMC, Incyte, W.L. Gore, Adesis, the University of Delaware and Air Liquide.
