Center for Social Impact

Our Mission

The Center for Social Impact (CSI) at Penn State Brandywine develops pathways for students to become socially responsible leaders and citizens who are prepared to create measurable, positive change in their communities and beyond.

Our educational priority is to help students discover and apply skills that prepare them to become actively engaged, responsible citizens and social leaders who architect positive, inclusive communities.

Why CSI Matters

At Penn State Brandywine, students don’t just learn about social change — they create it. The Center for Social Impact bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world impact, equipping students with the skills, relationships, and experiences they need to lead.

From food pantry operations to Habitat for Humanity builds, voter registration drives to campus garden harvests; every CSI experience is anchored in a core belief: knowledge without action is incomplete.

CSI is where student development meets community needs — and where measurable impact is built into every program.

About the Center

The Center for Social Impact (CSI) is a department within the Office of Student Affairs at Penn State Brandywine. CSI serves as a student engagement hub, community partnership engine, and experiential learning platform — connecting campus to community through three core pillars: Community Development, Civic Engagement, Human Rights & Access, and Life Literacy.

CSI programming follows the Knowledge → Mindset → Action learning model, ensuring every experience moves students from awareness to reflection to real-world application. From Spring 2025 through Spring 2026, CSI delivered measurable outcomes across service-learning, civic engagement, sustainability, and access to basic needs — while expanding regional partnerships and building infrastructure for long-term growth.

Core Values:

  • Discovery: Learning through action, reflection, and connection

  • Responsibility: Leading with purpose and ownership of impact

  • Community: Building relationships through shared purpose and action

A Modern Student Engagement Ecosystem

CSI is more than a volunteer office. It is a student success ecosystem, a leadership development hub, a workforce readiness connector, and a community impact engine — all under one roof. The Center operates at the intersection of Student Affairs, Workforce Development, Civic Engagement, Leadership Development, Community Partnerships, Student Success, Experiential Learning, and Career Readiness. Every program is designed to move a student further along that continuum.

How Students Learn Here

CSI programming follows the Knowledge → Mindset → Action learning model, ensuring every experience moves students from awareness to reflection to real-world application. Students do not simply attend events; they build competencies they carry into careers, civic life, and the communities they will eventually lead.

Long-Term Impact

From Spring 2025 through Spring 2026, CSI delivered measurable outcomes across service-learning, civic engagement, sustainability, basic-needs access, and workforce readiness — while expanding regional partnerships and building infrastructure for long-term, institutionally scalable growth. The Center is built to serve the next generation of socially responsible leaders, civically engaged students, workforce-ready graduates, and community-centered professionals.
