Recently, nearly 40 Penn State Brandywine students from Multilingual Student Course Cluster and Introduction to American Studies classes had the opportunity to visit New York City for a hands-on learning experience. They visited the National September 11 Memorial & Museum as well as the Tenement Museum.
During their tour of the Tenement Museum, students learned the history of immigration through the personal experiences of the generations of newcomers who settled in and built lives on Manhattan's Lower East Side, America's iconic immigrant neighborhood. They had the opportunity to walk through the tenement apartment building, hearing the detailed stories of the immigrant families who once lived there.
