Campus Teams

Academic Success Center Team

Charge – To act as a unit in Academic Affairs to offer a coordinated and cohesive approach to the campus’ tutoring needs and to contribute to the campus’ efforts to improve retention and student success on an ongoing basis. The Academic Success Center Team will meet regularly with the Director of Academic Affairs and academic support staff (DAA team) to provide updates on the tutoring centers, to advocate for new space, to troubleshoot academic support issues as they arise, and to advise on academic success issues.

Advising/Assessment Team

With the recommendation of our new Director of Academic Affairs, and Consistent with the recommendations of the Faculty Senate’s assessment of committees, the former “Advising Council” and “Campus Assessment Committee” will be paused, with these responsibilities being considered and implemented through conversations and meetings convened by the Director of Academic with the Program Liaisons of the baccalaureate degree programs offered at Brandywine.

Academic Recovery Team

Charge – To coordinate and enhance programs and services for students who are experiencing academic difficulty, especially for students who are not in Good Academic Standing (i.e., on Academic Warning) to overcome challenges and move forward successfully; and to recommend changes in campus processes, procedures, and practices that contribute to the prevalence and disparities of students whose cumulative grade point averages are below Good Academic Standing.

Internship Team

Charge – To promote and support high quality internships, with a focus on programs that require internships; recognizing the current context, and with the need to leverage technology and to be nimble, specific goals for the year may include:  (1.) to enhance data collection and analytics to support continuous improvement, (2.) to more boldly and robustly tell internship success stories, (3.) to grow partnerships and resources, such as with the Center for Ethics and Civic Engagement and Penn State Brandywine Alumni Society, among others, to expand paid internships for students and grow the campus’ capacity to support internships, (4.) to increase collaboration with Commonwealth College campuses and Penn State units, and (5.) other goals, as appropriate or necessary.

Laboratory Safety Team 

Charge – To give agency to faculty directly involved in discipline-based labs to ensure labs meet safety specifications, in alignment with the Penn State Integrated Safety Plan and with the support of the regional Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator; faculty will meet to oversee lab safety reviews, item issues, recommend solutions, and monitor progress of actions to resolve issues, and also, to make recommendations to enhance the student experience in discipline labs.

STEM PATHWAYS/STEAM EXPLORATIONS

After a year of multiple transitions to this long-standing and marquis program at Penn State Brandywine, which now services students, female and male, grades 7 – 12, STEAM Explorations is moving forward with continued gifts from donors. Of note, STEM Pathways will be the overarching name for our pipeline STEM programs. STEAM Explorations will be the name for the day, either virtual, in person, or hybrid, each spring to educate middle- and high-school students about science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

Summer Bridge Programs Team

Charge – To work collaboratively to ensure a more cohesive plan for the summer bridge programs (PaSSS, C.U.B.S. to Lions, Lion, DUS-C) at Penn State Brandywine and to collaborate across Commonwealth Campuses and with other offices at University Park, such as Educational Equity, to grow enrollments, achievement of program and student learning outcomes, and fiscal responsibility.
