The following is an outline of software the normal academic lab machine has. The base image is the groundwork for the rest of the lab images, and usually coincides with the model type of the computer.

After the base image is created, additional image files are derived from it.  Each table below lists the software associated with the labs on campus.  Image files are kept in folders that correspond with the computer lab, but the image files themselves are usually identified with only 5 characters.  This is because GHOST will truncate the name and span the image across other files.

There are other advantages to separating image files to lab location besides convenience of distribution.  We’re able to tailor printers, wallpaper designs, drivers, and other lab specific configurations to the image itself.  It gives us less to do when adding each machine to the network.  If a lab isn’t listed, the base image is all that is required.
