Martin Luther King Day of Service and Memorial Walk Jan. 19

Martin Luther King
1/18/2012 —

On Thursday, Jan. 19, the Office of Student Affairs, in conjunction with Laboratory for Civic Engagement, will be hosting four projects and a memorial walk to honor Dr. King and our campus’ founder John Vairo.

At 11:30 a.m., the campus community will ceremoniously walk in partnership and solidarity from the Vairo Library, across campus, ending at the Tomezsko Building (weather permitting). Following the walk, the campus is invited to take part in the following projects:

  • “Happy Mail”: participants will write encouraging mail to be sent to patients at Shriner’s Hospital in Philadelphia. The project will be coordinated by Penn State MADE.
  • Toiletries Collection: we are asking for donations of travel-size toiletries, to benefit homeless veterans.
  • Crochet/Knit or Donate a Hat: In support of Knittany Lion Needleworks, we are asking participants to crochet, knit or donate hats for homeless veterans.
  • No-Sew Blankets: participants will work together to create no-sew blankets out of fleece.

For more information contact the Office of Student Affairs at 610-892-1270.
